Arm and Empower Yourself for Positive Change

How many people know that if you don’t believe in yourself, it is difficult for anyone else to believe in you. I wonder sometimes why people have such negative and defeatist views of themselves. Sure, the negative things that people say about you are easier to believe. But if you had to consider the facts associated with what someone says about you, how true would that be. Repeating the negative stuff in your head over and over will make anyone overtime believe that what you are telling yourself is true. You know what I mean, crap like “I’m not smart enough”, “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t deserve to be happy”, “I should accept my life as it is although I am miserable”, “I am nobody”. You get the gest of what I am saying, right?!

Reframing is Power. Well STOP IT! You can start to believe in yourself TODAY! Don’t procrastinate about this – it is very important. The negative things you tell yourself hold you in bondage. You stop your own progress and stifle your own success, just by what you tell yourself. Because as a man or woman thinketh, so is he or she. The negative comments render you powerless to be able to move forward positively in your life. I don’t know about you, but I am seeking to be free and unencumbered. If you have been telling yourself overtime the negative and defeatist statements, just change the narrative. Reframe your conversation to the person in the mirror. (A reminder that reframe means to frame or express differently.) Give yourself a new message, you know comments like “I am smart and intelligent”, “I am more than enough”, “I deserve to be happy and have the power to make changes to accomplish just that”, “I am somebody”.  Now doesn’t that sound better?! Be purposeful. If you purposely tell yourself “I AM A WINNER”, you will start to believe it and overtime you will seek out and accomplish actions that render that statement true. I am a winner! Are you?

Happiness is a Choice. Sometimes, life events have shaped a negative message that we repeat to ourselves. Sometimes, we need help in learning to reframe and talk differently to the person in the mirror. Make sure you surround yourself with people that help to echo a positive you. I used to have friends that let me wallow in the negativity – complain, whine, and moan about how horrible life was for me. Wah, wah, wah! I was the perfect victim and expressed a lot of anger about all the things that were being done to me. Let’s be honest, I did the same things for them – you know birds of a feather flock together. Negativity breeds negativity. However, I was tired of being miserable and accepting that there was nothing I could do about it, so I made different choices. I no longer have some of those friends, but I am now am empowered and can choose happiness daily. Happiness and your mindset are a choice. I look in the mirror and see somebody that is empowered, beautiful, and successful.

Awareness is Power. The first step is acknowledging your negative mindset. Awareness and knowledge are powerful. One of the tools I used to identify how I “show up” daily is an assessment created by Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) called the Energy Leadership Index (E.L.I.) Assessment. This assessment is an attitudinal assessment that helps identify how you react normally and how you react as stress is introduced to the process. What I like about it is that it differs from other assessments as it is not intended to label you, and have you work within the label. It measures your level of energy based on your attitude, perception, of perspective of the world. As attitude is subjective, you can shift or change it. Do you remember your mother saying to you “Girl, you better do something about that attitude.”? I like this assessment so much and the empowerment that is provided, I became a mastered practitioner of this assessment and I am certified to share and debrief results with clients that I coach.

Who you are is predicated on who you think you are and how you show up daily! Be proactive and positive in seeking a better You!
